Scouting has now created the position of Adult Helper for parents and other adults who want to be involved with Youth Activities. It is part of Scouying doing their part to be Child Safe and ensures everyone who is interacting with your children has a Working With Children Check, Police Check and training in how to be Work Safe and Child Safe.

If a Parent or adult siblings want to attend a FUTURE GROUP CAMP, be a regular helper at meetings or attend Unit camps, they need to be an Adult Helper. This helps “free up” Leaders so they can focus on planning and running activities and providing youth members with the best Scouting experience. It also gives you an insight into what Scouting is all about and may inspire you to become a Leader! So, how do I become an Adult Helper?

Step 1: Have a Working With Children Check (WWCC) number

If you don’t have this already, you go to this website:
https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/apply-for-a-working-with-children-check

Apply for the WWCC and then you will need to take various documents to your closest RMS to finalise the process.

Step 2: Register with our group

Go to our Group’s ScoutHub page, click “New Member” and fill in your details:
https://www.1st-brush-park.group.scoutsnsw.com.au/registration

  • On the next page click the “Full Membership” option.
  • On the page after that scroll down and find the “New Adult Helper” option.
  • Finish filling in your information. Keep going to the next page until the application is submitted.
  • There is nothing to pay. It is all free.

Step 3: Sydney North Region Office verifies the WWCC – Out of your hands

The SNR Office look through applications twice a week and verify the WWCC numbers to make sure they are valid. If
there is an issue, they let our Group Leader know. If there is no issue, the application is passed on to the State Office.

Step 4: State Office Sends out a National Police Check email

The State Office will send you an email with a request and link to do a National Police Check. Follow those
instructions and then that is all submitted and verified.

Step 5: Welcome Email and Mandatory Online Courses

Once all of the official parts are verified and check by Region and State you will be sent a welcome email with
instructions on what to do next.

Part of that will be doing two mandatory online courses:

  • “Child Safe Scouting” and
  • “WHS for Scouting”.

They are not very long and all up should take you no more than 2 hours total. You can dip in and
out of these modules and come back to them when you have a chance. You are also welcome to do more of the “On
Demand” online courses if you want to or want to know more about Scouting.

Step 6: Keep Up to Date

  • Every 6 months (called "Treks") you will need to re-register with the Group website just so we know you are continuing with your membership. You will receive a reminder email.
  • Every 2 years you need to redo the Mandatory Online courses and you should receive a reminder email when they
are about to come up for renewal.

WITH ALL OF THIS DONE, YOU ARE NOW AN ADULT HELPER and can come on the Group Camp, Unit Camps, Youth Meeting nights and any other activity with Youth Members. It keeps you safe and keeps your children safe.
