Our District Leader, Cameron Jessep, has asked Brush Park to supply 5 Youth members (Scouts or Venturers or even Cubs or Joeys) to attend a Ryde Council Citizenship Ceremony to escort the flags and official party into and out of the ceremony.
We need a 5-youth team for BOTH a 5pm Ceremony & 7pm Ceremony. Meet 30 minutes BEFORE your ceremony. You can do both, if you want. You may leave as soon as the ceremony is completed UNLESS you want to use this as part of a Special Interest Award.
We need to let Cameron know BEFORE the event who is going to attend.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is Project Patrol Special Interest Award activity: SIA - Creating a Better World
Project Completion date is your next Scout/Cub/Venturer meeting after this event.
SIA activities need to incorporate a significant amount of time therefore there is a need to do pre-work or post-work to achieve all the goals. You can't just turn up to this activity and expect to achieve the award.
Plan of what you hope to achieve within this Special Interest Area:
- Find out what is required for someone to become a new citizen of Australia. Report this to your activity support person.
- Identify any friends or family who have gone through this process and interview them about it. How long did it take? What did they have to do? What about an exam? And so on. Write it all down and report it to your support person.
- Do some research on the percentage of new citizens that come from various countries.
- Attend the Ryde Citizenship Ceremony and support those finalising this process.
- Talk to some of the new citizens after the ceremony, if you can, and congratulate them and ask them about their feelings on becoming a citizen.
Perhaps you could come up with some other goals.
Think about how you would personally grow from doing this project: Social, Physical, Intellectual, Character, Emotional, OR Spiritual.
The activity will:
- involve both male and female youth members.
- be under direct adult supervision.
Both male and female Leaders will be present.
Method of transport to and from activity: Own transport
